Hard to believe that the school year is over!  The Spring went flying by.  I guess we were so busy learning that the time went by quickly.

I am proud of all of the 5-2 students who worked hard all school year.  I will miss seeing you every day and hearing what you are up to!  I hope you have a wonderful summer and enjoy your time off.

Each summer I make a list of things that I want to do, places I want to visit, and books that I want to read.  I try to cross off things off my list so I have a productive summer.  I hope you make plans to do some interesting new activities and expand your background.  Learning should take place in the summer, too!

Let me know what you are doing!  I will keep you updated on my experiences.  If I read any great books or go to any interesting places, I will let you know.

My 1st summer activity on Monday will be to go shopping at the Michigan City Outlet Mall and out to lunch with Mrs. Crean, Mrs. Friberg, and Mrs. Nagle.  We decided that this would be a fun way to start our summer!!

Congratulations to all the 5th Graders!!  Everyone received awards for all their hard work during the year!  We also had a lot of fun playing volleyball this afternoon. 

Tomorrow is SPRINGFEST!  Wear your DARE T-shirt to school tomorrow for all the fun!!

Tuesday, May 28th

The 5th Graders had a great time at SKY HIGH today!  They were well behaved and represented Helen Keller well! 

Tomorrow is the Awards Assembly at 9:15 AM and the Teacher/Student Volleyball game in the afternoon.  Wear your tie-dye T-shirt.  The girls from the Volleyball team should also wear/bring their T-shirts.

Come to DARE Graduation!!  Be at school at 6:15 PM.  Come in and and sit down.  You will be instructed when to get in line for pizza.  Be sure to wear your DARE T-shirt!

Reading - Read Chapter 17 in Chasing Vermeer. Do the questions for this chapter.

There are several students who have not turned in their Sky High field trip forms.  You MUST bring them in!!  You can not attend the trip without the forms and money!

HOMEWORK:

Work on your poetry book.  The complete book is due on Tuesday, May 21st!  Add your finishing touches to your book.  Remember to have the following:

1. All your poems written out neatly.  Go over the words in ink to finish them off.  Label each poem with the kind of poem it is.  (Lantern, Quatrain, Part of Speech)
2. Illustrate your poems.  Each page should have a picture or decoration that enhances your poem.
3. Finish coloring your front and back cover.  Be sure that you have the name of your book and your full name (first and last) on the cover.
4. Dedication page (on the inside of the cover) - Dedicate your book to whoever has influenced, inspired or loves you!
5. Title page - 1st page of book.  Include your title and your full name.
6. About the Author - Include a short biography about you.  Give details about your life like where and when you were born, school, family, likes, activities, future career. 

There should be several empty pages in the back.  You can either leave them blank, add more poems, or decorate them in a creative way.  Use your imagination!!

Return the permission slips for the Trampoline Field Trip and for the Track Meet (if you were selected).  Also - If you did your log for 6 Flags, your ticket was attached to the newsletter!

Tomorrow is our Fine Arts parade.  Please remember to dress appropriately. 

The students brought home their Tie Dyed T-shirts today.  These shirts should be washed in 24 hours.  Take the rubber bands off and then wash in cold water.  You might want to wash them a 2nd time just in case!

Language - Repetition poem:  You may either repeat a particular phrase or a prepositional phrase in your poem.  Some of you are just repeating a phrase, but you have no ending.  Be sure to make an ending that wraps up your ideas in some way.  

For example:

In the Spring, new life begins.
In the Spring, the plants awake.
In the Spring, many babies are born.
In the Spring, the warmth tickles the earth.
Winter is over.  Spring is here!
